9,000 BMC School Teachers Gear Up to Teach Child Safety Through Play-Based Learning

Mumbai 16, October, 2026: With growing concerns around the safety of young children, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has introduced Brave Buddy, an experiential and inquiry-based learning initiative designed to help schoolchildren understand different aspects of personal safety. Nearly 9,000 teachers from BMC schools are being trained by Target Learning Ventures Pvt. Ltd. to use Brave Buddy in classrooms and engage students from age group 3 to 13 years in learning about physical, emotional, mental and digital safety through play-based activities.

The training programme, which commenced on October 5 and will continue until October 13, is being conducted in batches of 80 to 169 teachers across BMC schools in Lower Parel, Goregaon and Kurla. Rather than focusing only on theoretical instruction, the sessions provide educators with hands-on exposure to the Brave Buddy learning resources, enabling them to understand how different activities can be adapted to classroom settings and the developmental needs of students.

Available in Marathi and English language, Brave Buddy comprises four age-specific learning kits for children age between 3 to 13 years, each structured around themes relevant to the experiences and understanding of children at different stages. Designed around different dimensions of child safety, the four kits address physical, emotional, mental, digital and social well-being. The comprehensive learning resources include concept books, teacher manuals, activity materials, visual guides and worksheets, enabling teachers to introduce these themes through structured and interactive classroom experiences. Instructional videos are also provided to guide teachers in using the safety kit resources and toys effectively.

A teacher who attended the training session at a BMC school in Kurla said, “The strength of the Brave Buddy kit lies in the way it turns important safety concepts into activities that children can understand and relate to. The training has given us a clearer understanding of how to use these resources and create more engaging conversations around situations that children may encounter in their daily lives.”

Sharing her experience at the Lower Parel training session, another teacher said, “Children tend to connect more naturally with concepts when they are encouraged to participate rather than only listen. The activities in Brave Buddy provide an opportunity to discuss different situations, understand appropriate responses and reinforce these lessons in a way that can stay with them beyond the classroom.”

Dilip Gangaramani, Founder Director & CEO, Target Learning Ventures Pvt. Ltd., said, “At Target Learning Ventures, we believe learning becomes meaningful when children can understand, experience and apply what they learn. Brave Buddy brings together age-appropriate content and experiential activities to help children develop awareness, confidence and the judgement to make safer choices. We welcome the BMC’s initiative to introduce structured safety education for schoolchildren and are pleased to support teachers with resources that can make these important conversations more engaging and effective.”
