New Delhi, 17 July: Dharav Recess, the on-campus daycare initiative by Dharav High School, Gurugram, is a strong example of how schools are evolving into ecosystem partners for families, addressing childcare, well-being and work-life balance. For many working parents, the school day does not end with the last bell. It continues with the need for a space where their children stay cared for and at ease. Recognising this, the school introduced Dharav Recess to support working families, especially mothers, beyond regular hours.
Structure drives the programme. The critical after-school hours can otherwise feel unanchored, hence Dharav Recess brings routine and consistency to them, inside a campus built to be safe, secure, and child-friendly. Children take part in hands-on experiential activities throughout the day, from creative arts and storytelling to games and guided reading. Homework guidance and support are built into the routine, alongside proper rest and recharge time with wholesome, nutritious meals.
Every activity is age-appropriate and thoughtfully planned to support children's social and cognitive development. Trained and attentive caregivers supervise throughout, ensuring each child is genuinely cared for.
"A school's presence does not stop at academics; it extends to a child's everyday well-being. Dharav Recess was born from that understanding, giving parents peace of mind and children a space where they truly belong. For us, this is not childcare; it is an extension of care itself," said Ms. Ritu Jawa, Principal, Dharav High School, Gurugram.
Parents today prioritise trust and safety as much as academics, and Dharav Recess was shaped with that in mind. Supervision alone is not the goal: a good daycare is a space where children develop life skills that stay with them well beyond their years at daycare.
