12th August 2024: Project-Based Learning (PBL) is a teaching methodology that has gained increasing traction in recent times as an alternative to the traditional method of teaching students. It involves organizing and structuring your curriculum around real-world complex problems and projects which help in actively engaging the student’s interest and imagination. In PBL, students work on the project over an extended duration of time – usually a week up to a semester—wherein they are allowed to investigate, research, make inquiries, and pose sounding boards while using their skills, tools, and knowledge to address that specific problem or project.
So why is this form of learning better than others? The simple answer for this is here – it makes learning fun, interesting, and obtainable at every level. One of the biggest benefits of PBL is that it increases student engagement. Many traditional teaching methods rely heavily on lectures and direct instruction, which can lead to passive learning and disinterest in the material. In traditional education settings, mistakes are viewed as indicators of failure. However, in PBL, it is the process that is most important. Failure is seen as an opportunity for learning and an inevitable part of the journey toward success and mastery.
