Guwahati, May 8: The much-awaited Hindi feature film Baazingg Khwatai had a grand premiere on May 7, 2026, at PVR City Centre, receiving an overwhelming response from audiences, media, and industry members. Blending folklore, psychological tension, and ritualistic horror, the film kept viewers engaged and thoughtful, marking a strong entry in the genre.

The evening saw a lively turnout, with cast, crew, and special guests walking the red carpet. The premiere began with an engaging press interaction, followed by an exclusive screening that held audiences in complete attention.
Directed by Siddharth Shasta, an alumnus and Professor & Head of Screen Acting at the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune, Baazingg Khwatai explores the intersection of belief, fear, and inherited traditions. The story is set against the remote and visually striking landscapes of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.
The narrative begins with an investigation into unexplained murders and slowly unfolds into a deeper story about an ancient cult and its ritualistic practices. Audiences appreciated the film’s atmosphere, regional authenticity, and its ability to go beyond conventional horror.
Speaking at the event, Siddharth Shasta said,
“We had dreamt of making this film five years ago. This film is also an attempt to democratize filmmaking, where a group of passionate people came together to create something meaningful. Today, seeing the film release and receiving such an amazing response from the audience feels like a dream come true. At a time when films in this genre are often made with large budgets, heavy CGI, and VFX, we chose to shoot entirely on real locations. This adds to the authenticity of the situations and strengthens the belief in the characters, even though the story itself is completely fictional.”
The film features a strong ensemble cast including Siddharth Sharma, Novkishor Dutta, Anshul Tyagi, Pooja Chetry, Vivek Mishra, and Alwin, whose performances have been appreciated for their depth and honesty.
Actor Siddharth Sharma shared,“The audience reaction has been very encouraging. It’s a film that stays with you, and seeing people connect with it so deeply is very rewarding.”
Anshul Tyagi added,“The film is rooted in honesty and cultural storytelling. The response at the premiere validates all the effort the team has put in.”
Pooja Chetry expressed,“For me, this film represents the power and intent of the Goddess. It is something I feel deeply, and I believe many women will connect with and understand this emotion on a personal level.”
Shot extensively across Assam, with portions in Arunachal Pradesh, the film uses the raw and powerful landscape as an important part of its storytelling, almost like a character in itself.
Following its premiere, Baazingg Khwatai has released in theatres on May 8, 2026, with a strong rollout across 74 screens in Assam and select screenings in Arunachal Pradesh, along with a wider national release.
With its unique mix of folklore, realism, and psychological depth, Baazingg Khwatai stands as a thought-provoking addition to Indian cinema—one that stays with the audience and encourages them to reflect on the nature of belief and fear.
