Vastra Sanskriti’ Expo Brings India’s Weaving Traditions at Janpath

New Delhi, Apr 22: The Special Handloom Expo: “Vastra Sanskriti- The Timesless Weaves”,  has begun at Handloom Haat, Janpath, bringing together traditional textiles and crafts from different parts of the country. Organised by the Development Commissioner (Handlooms), the exhibition has been attracting visitors since its opening day.

This edition of expo goes beyond a routine display, offering visitors a closer and more engaging look at India’s diverse weaving traditions. A range of traditional textiles has emerged as key attractions, including Gujarat’s Patola sarees, the fine Chanderi weaves from Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan’s Kota Doria sarees. These handwoven pieces are drawing steady attention from visitors, reflecting both their cultural value and continued demand among buyers.

Over 60 exhibitors from states such as Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Jammu & Kashmir are part of the expo. With weavers and cooperative groups present at the venue, visitors are getting the opportunity to interact directly and gain a better understanding of traditional craft and techniques.

Apart from sarees and suit sets, the expo offers a wide range of products such as cotton and silk dress materials, shawls, stoles, bed sheets, home furnishings, kurtas and durries. Handcrafted items like block prints, embroidery, jewellery and crochet products are also available.

The exhibition will continue till April 30 and is open daily from 11:00 am to 8:00 pm. The event is providing a platform for weavers to connect directly with buyers, while also giving visitors a chance to explore India’s handloom heritage up close.

This initiative by the Development Commissioner (Handlooms) and the National Design Centre is aimed at preserving India’s rich textile traditions while supporting local weavers. The expo is helping strengthen livelihoods and expand the reach of Indian handloom in both domestic and global markets.
